Hongqiang WANG

Hongqiang Wang is a Tenured Associate Professor and Research Fellow (Senior Level) at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), and serves as the Deputy Director of the SUSTech Institute of Robotics. He is recognized as a National High-Level Talent, as well as the Guangdong Provincial High-Level Talent and Shenzhen Municipal High-Level Talent. He is the Head of Robotics Engineering Program and a recipient of the First SUSTech “Mentor and Friend” Outstanding Graduate Supervisor Award.He received his Ph.D. in Precision Engineering from The University of Tokyo in 2015. From 2015 to 2018, he conducted postdoctoral research at Harvard University. He joined SUSTech in September 2018.His research focuses on the fundamental mechanism model of flexible electrostatic actuation as well as the advanced applications across diverse scenarios. He has established a series of systematic theoretical and methodological achievements covering materials, design methodologies, analytical modeling, and application technologies for flexible electrostatic actuation. He has published in top robotics journals, including The International Journal of Robotics Research, IEEE Transactions on Robotics, Nature Communications, and Science Robotics.His honors include the 5th Xiong Youlun Zhihu Outstanding Young Scholar Award and Second Prize in the 2025 National Disruptive Technology Innovation Competition-Intelligent Robot Championship. He has led multiple research projects, including the National Key R&D Program of China (Sub-projects), the Original Exploration Project of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and the General Program of the Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong Province.He currently serves as a Young Editorial Board Member of the International Journal of Hydromechatronics, a committee member of the Robot Intelligence Professional Committee of the Chinese Association of Automation, a committee member of the Semiconductor Equipment Institution of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, and a committee member of the Medical–Engineering Integration Branch of the Guangdong Precision Medicine Application Association.
